Up to 80% of electric vehicle charging is done at home.
Energy costs vary widely based on the time of day, day of the week and season of the year. If you can charge your electric vehicle during off- peak hours, you can save money. MiEnergy has charging rates for members using a 240-volt charger to charge their electric vehicle.
What to know:
- A 240-volt charging station (Level 2) is recommended for a faster charge.
- Most dealers will sell you a charger or you can purchase them elsewhere. A local electrician or MiEnergy can provide recommendations.
- A Level 2 charger should be installed by a licensed electrician and it may require an upgrade to your service panel.
- Federal tax credits are available for the installation of a Level 2 charger.
- MiEnergy has rebates available to members that are on an electric charging rate.
- If you are building a new home or remodeling your garage, now is the time to consider wiring for a future charging station.
How to enroll in MiEnergy’s electric vehicle programs:
- Ask MiEnergy about rebates and how to determine which rate program is best for you.
- Contact an electrician to install a submeter socket and a level 2 (240v) electric vehicle charging station.
Meter socket must be:
- Lever-bypass
- Sub metered
- Located outside
- Only wired to the EV charger(s)
- Once the meter socket and charger are installed, call MiEnergy to schedule program enrollment.
- Submit the EV Charging Station rebate form.
- Choose a rate and start saving money (depending on when you charge).
Our electric vehicle time of use program is designed to save members money by charging during off-peak times. Each month your bill will break down how many kilowatt hours you use to charge your EV during on-peak and off-peak times. Please refer to the graphic to understand these times.
The more off-peak charging you can do the more money you can save. This program is available to plug-in EVs (PEVs) and plug-in hybrid EVs (PHEVs). Contact MiEnergy when the meter socket and charger are installed- a representative will install the meter and you will be enrolled in the program.
The electric vehicle subscription program simplifies the cost of charging by implementing a straightforward monthly fixed cost. The benefit is you’ll know exactly how much you’re paying each month to charge your electric vehicle as long as you charge during off-peak hours (9 p.m.-5 a.m.).
Each month your bill will break down how many kilowatt hours you use to charge your EV during subscription hours (off-peak) and on-peak. Which tier you sign up for will determine your monthly cost.
