Cresco, IA | Rushford, MN (1:30 p.m. April 15, 2019)— MiEnergy Cooperative reminds the public to use caution in areas that were affected by power outages caused by last week’s storm.

“While service is temporarily up, we know in the coming days there will be additional outages where equipment has been compromised from the storm,” says Chad Chaffee, MiEnergy’s vice president of Minnesota system operations. “We continue to be out in the field inspecting our system, but if anyone sees something that doesn’t look right, they are encouraged to call us.”

MiEnergy says anyone that finds a downed power line should always treat it as if it were energized. One can’t tell if a power line is energized or not just by sight.

With over 5,000 electric service interruptions and 100 broken distribution poles, it will take the cooperative weeks to fully cleanup. As a reminder, broken power poles and line equipment in the rights-of-way will be cleaned up by the cooperative or its contractor.

If a member’s power does go out, please call MiEnergy at 800-432-2285 to report the outage.
