MiEnergy Cooperative has launched two exciting opportunities that are available to high school students who have parents or guardians that are members of the cooperative.

2025 YOUTH TOUR CONTEST

Local high school sophomores and juniors have until March 3 to enter a contest to win an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., to attend the 2025 Rural Electric Youth Tour in mid-June.

Two students, one from Iowa and one from Minnesota, will be selected from eligible candidates. Each state’s Youth Tour group will join hundreds of students from across the country as they learn more about electric cooperatives and American history. Students learn about the U.S. government and meet with their members of Congress. On the trip, students take in the sights of D.C. as they visit monuments, museums and historical landmarks. It is a great leadership opportunity for students who have a passion for government and public service or simply want to travel and experience something new.

The contest is open to children of MiEnergy members. Students must be high school sophomores or juniors. The trip date is June 15-21 for Iowa students and June 16-21 for Minnesota students. Students can apply online at www.MiEnergy.coop/youthtour. The application deadline is March 3, 2025.

For over 65 years, locally owned electric cooperatives across the nation have been sending students to Washington, D.C. as part of the Youth Tour program.

COMMUNITY SERVICE SCHOLARSHIPS

As a cooperative, MiEnergy has a strong commitment to youth and the community. The community service scholarship program recognizes high school seniors who demonstrate the cooperative spirit of service to others. MiEnergy plans to give up to 80 students a $1,000 scholarship in 2025.

Scholarship eligibility:

  • Must be a high school senior who is graduating in 2025.
  • Must continue education after high school at an accredited technical school, college or university.
  • Parent(s) or legal guardian(s) must be a MiEnergy member with an active electric account.
  • Must demonstrate community service, according to the scholarship application instructions.
  • Must have a least a “B” grade point average.

The scholarships are funded with unclaimed capital credit funds that would otherwise be forfeited to the state. Students can apply online at www.MiEnergy.coop/scholarships. The application deadline is March 3, 2025.
